Interview Assigment

Manjinder Sondh is a business analyst and is employed with CIBC. She has been employed with them for 7 years and has just been promoted to a new job position. I sat down with Sondh to see if her career would be appropriate for me.

Q: What do you do for a living?
A: I work with CIBC and my new position is in the National Risk Department.

Q: What are some of your duties?
A: My duties involve exporting all fraud activities to the government. I work with all kinds of fraud including debit and ATMs and except for credit cars and mortgages.

Q: What do you like most about you job?
A: I like that my job is a challenge. It's amazing to see how much fraud is involved today and the different ways people use to get away with what they are doing. For example, a person can find a simple sheet of paper that says someones information on it. The person can commit identity theft by opening an account under their name and cash fraudulent checks. They can also take funds out.

Q: What are your long-term goals in the company?
A: My new promotion has motivated me to achieve a higher position in the company. I'm definitely looking forward to more promotions and will be applying for senior positions.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: I see myself as the director of the department or working with the government with finance.

Q: How has your job effected you personally?
A: I like that my job has an easy going environment so it doesn't leave me stressed out. I can choose my own hours for the most part so it doesn't effect my family or personal time. It's also strengthened my skills like my communication and people skills for example.

Q: Is your new position more challenging for you?
A: Yes, defiantly. It's very tiring since there is so much to learn in so little time.

Q: What are some of your most memorable moments at your workplace?
A: One day that I can not forget at the company is September 11th. When the planes crashed everyone was leaving downtown and the trains were packed. It was very scary mostly because of all the panic and chaos.

Q: If there was one thing that you would change about you job what would it be?
A I would want to be the boss and would choose my own salary. I would also like to work from home and wake up when I want.

Q: Would you recommend this career to me?
A: Well, all in all, it really depends on your interests. You don't want to do something that you wouldn't enjoy. The advice I can give you is to try to volunteer or find work in this field to see how you like it. If it doesn't interest you then find something new. The company actually hires students in the summer.

So I found myself a summer job. I always found business interesting but I also get bored of things that I don't enjoy doing. I think I will take her advice and try out a job in the field to see what's out there.
